A fairy-tale world in the strawberry greenhouses
Aardbeienland on the Kreuzelweg in Horst is a theme park devoted entirely to the strawberry. The former strawberry greenhouses, 5000 square metres in all, have been turned into a fairy-tale world of vistas, little passages, tunnels, gnome gardens and fairy-tale scenes. Outside there is another hectare and a half, with a gnome wood.
Inside the greenhouses you hear music composed especially for the park. Display cases hold a collection of strawberry-themed objects, gathered with great affection over the years. Visitors stay two to three hours on average, and when it rains there is plenty to see indoors.

From strawberry grower to Aardbeienland
It started with growing. For more than twenty years Hay Soberjé ran the strawberry farm he had taken over from his father, and every strawberry went to the auction. As more and more people walked onto the field for a punnet, he set up a little shop in his barn. Later came a garden with different strawberry varieties, and the whole place got a name: Het Aardbeienland.
All his life Hay collected anything with a strawberry on it; you will now find those pieces all over the park. In 2018 the family retired. Since April 2023 the Nijland family has run the park, the shop and the restaurant.

Strawberries on the terrace
The restaurant has an indoor and an outdoor area and a large terrace in the shade of the trees; in the warmer months there is also an outdoor bar. The menu includes summer crowns with fresh strawberries and whipped cream, homemade strawberry vlaai and an ice cream sundae with fresh strawberries. The kitchen is open until 17:00.
The restaurant, terrace and shop are free to enter, even without visiting the park. In the shop you can buy strawberries all year round, along with blueberries and other soft fruit from the region, local produce and craft beers.
Tip from reception
Just fancy coffee and strawberry vlaai? The restaurant, terrace and shop are free to enter, even without a ticket for the park. It is a six-minute walk; come before five, as that is when the kitchen closes.
