Christmas all over central Düsseldorf

From 19 November to 30 December 2026, the whole of Düsseldorf city centre turns into a Christmas market, with hundreds of Christmas trees lining the streets. You walk from Schadowstraße along the Königsallee to the Altstadt, home to the Altstadtmarkt with crafts and seasonal treats.

On the Burgplatz by the Rhine, the Wheel of Vision turns, a Ferris wheel 55 metres high, and on the Königsallee you’ll find the Kö on Ice skating rink. Please note: the market is closed on Sunday 22 November (Totensonntag) and on Christmas Day.

The Krippenmarkt around the Kapellenplatz

In the pilgrimage town of Kevelaer, the Kevelaerer Krippenmarkt runs from 27 November to 20 December 2026, on the Luxemburger Platz, the Kapellenplatz and in the Forum Pax Christi. On the Kapellenplatz stands the Gnadenkapelle, a hexagonal domed chapel from 1654. The Kerzenkapelle, built in 1643-1645, is also in Kevelaer: the oldest pilgrimage church in the town.

The heart of the market is the living nativity scene in the Forum Pax Christi, where Karl Timmermann performs the nativity play on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. The market is open Monday to Thursday from 13:00 to 19:00, Friday from 13:00 to 20:00, Saturday from 11:00 to 20:00 and Sunday from 11:00 to 19:00; the food and drink stalls stay open an hour longer.

The first Christmas Fair at Arcen Castle

From 25 to 29 November 2026, Arcen Castle Gardens (Kasteeltuinen Arcen) are organising their own Christmas Fair for the first time, succeeding the Country & Christmas Fair that was held there for more than 25 years. The stalls stand on the forecourt of the castle, whose outer bailey was built in 1653, and on the Toernooiveld around a giant sequoia more than a hundred years old. Along the oak avenue you walk to the large pond with its fountain show, and the castle opens its doors in nineteenth-century Christmas style.

Even closer to Horst is Christmas World at Leurs garden centre on Straelseweg in Venlo: not a Christmas market but a Christmas show of almost 10,000 m², open every day from 1 October 2026 to 3 January 2027, except on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. On Thursdays and Fridays it stays open until 21:00.

Tip from reception

Düsseldorf recommends public transport. With the P+R combi ticket you park at P13 at the airport and take the Rheinbahn to the market; get off at Heinrich-Heine-Allee. If you do drive into the city centre, check how full the car parks are before you set off on Advent weekends. Don’t plan Düsseldorf on Sunday 22 November or Christmas Day: the market is closed then.

Which Christmas market is closest to Horst?

The closest is Christmas World at Leurs garden centre in Venlo, a Christmas show of almost 10,000 m², about 15 minutes’ drive away. The nearest Christmas market is the Christmas Fair at Kasteeltuinen Arcen (25 to 29 November 2026), just over 20 minutes away. The Krippenmarkt in Kevelaer is 30 minutes away.

We have not found a traditional Christmas market in either town for 2026. From 27 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, Roermond has the Winter Fever Arena on Munsterplein, with roller skating and events. In Venlo there is the Christmas World show at Leurs garden centre, and in Arcen (municipality of Venlo) the Christmas Fair from 25 to 29 November 2026.

When is Magisch Maastricht in 2026?
