A rose garden in the heart of Lottum
De Rozenhof is a rose garden with a rose knowledge centre (Rozenkenniscentrum) and a rose museum, right in the historic centre of Lottum. The entrance is on the Markt. Volunteers of the Stichting Rozenhof Lottum look after the garden without pesticides: everything here revolves around the healthy, sustainable garden rose.
The roses grow in beds just as they might in your own garden, so you can take your time choosing your favourite. From June the garden is in full bloom; in May you look at the roses for their leaf colour and stroll past the changing exhibition in the middle of the garden. Above the beds you keep seeing the Sint-Gertrudiskerk, whose tower of about 69 metres dates from 1959.
Lottum and the rose
In the museum on the grounds, you see how the rose developed and the role it plays in art, religion and stories. That history is woven into Lottum itself: the first roses were grown here around 1875. Fruit growers on the Maasveld, already used to grafting trees, took up the related technique of budding roses. The museum is small; you can take the explanation with you as a leaflet, also in German and English.
In the knowledge centre, you read how to care for roses and choose a healthy rose, and you can vote for the most beautiful rose of the season. At the Rose Festival of 2024 and 2026, the garden was full of rose mosaics in August; for the Feast of the Rose in 2022, an estimated 50,000 rose bushes and buds were used.

Around the garden: castle and Maas
From the garden you can see Kasteel De Borggraaf, a castle dating from 1551. Nearby stands the Houthuizer Molen, a windmill rebuilt on the site of the mill destroyed in 1944.
De Rozenhof is also the start and finish of several walks: four of its own circular walks of 4 to 9.5 kilometres and junction walks such as the 6-kilometre Rozenhofpad. The Lottum-Lomm ferry takes you across the Maas to Arcen, home of the Arcen Castle Gardens.

Tip from reception
Come from June onwards, when the garden is in full bloom. Park on the market square, as the entrance is on the Markt. Fancy a coffee first? The knowledge centre and the covered terrace are open to everyone, even without an admission ticket.

Not rose plants; a nursery and a garden centre in Lottum sell those. In the little shop by the ticket desk, you will find rose products, such as soap, fragrances and culinary products.

Yes, for four people or more, booked in advance via reserveringen@rozenhoflottum.nl. A guided garden tour takes about an hour and costs € 7.50 (2026); there are also packages with coffee and vlaai or lunch.
