Gardens around a country estate
Arcen Castle Gardens call themselves one of the most varied flower and plant parks in Europe. Around the historic estate of Arcen castle lie 32 hectares of gardens, managed by Limburgs Landschap. The highlight is the Rosarium: ten rose rooms with more than 8,000 rose bushes.
You also stroll through the Italian Garden, the Rhododendron Garden, the Bamboo Forest and the Fern Valley, and past the giant sequoia. In the Water and Sculpture Garden the exhibitions change, and in the Mediterranean Garden a large lavender field blooms.
Inside Arcen Castle
The castle has stood here since the 17th century. In 1653 Marcelis van Gelder, Lord of Arcen, built the forecastle on the site of a destroyed predecessor; the very first castle, Huys den Kamp, stood where the car park is now. After a fire in the 19th century the northern side wing disappeared.
Your garden ticket also gets you into the castle. On the bel-etage, antiques and art stand among fresh flower arrangements, and on the Van Gelre floor the exhibitions change. The last resident, Professor Deusser, left with his family in 1931.
The Oriental Water Garden
One of the quietest corners of the park is the Oriental Water Garden, with a red gate by the water and Japanese maples that change colour in autumn. From there you walk back to the castle past the Great Pond with its fountain.
In 2026 the season runs from 28 March to 1 November, every day from 10:00 to 18:00. Your ticket is cheaper online than at the ticket office, and dogs are welcome on a lead.
Tip from reception
Buy your ticket online, which saves € 2 per person. Start at the castle, directly to the left of the entrance, and then walk via the Rosarium to the Oriental Water Garden. The 2026 season runs until 1 November.
